A Few Memories of Hobkin

Thank you, everyone, for the outpouring of sympathy and condolences. And a special thank you to yukinooruoni who stopped by on Monday with a care package of heat-and-eat meals, correctly surmising that neither Matthew nor I would be capable of or inclined to do much cooking at this time.

I am truly touched, knowing that so many people will also miss Hobkin’s silly antics and irrepressible personality. I’ve also taken some comfort in reading over the posts I made about Hobkin over the years and looking at our pictures and videos of him, and I wanted to share a few of the last images we took of him.

Taken on Feb. 20 when Hobkin was breathing easily and seemed almost like his old self, the weekend before he started having seizures.

And here are two videos I took on March 1 of Hobkin doing one of his favorite things: eating.

And finally, I’m reprinting on my website the first story that Hobkin inspired, “Running on Two Legs.” It remains one of my favorites, and re-reading it reminded me of Hobkin as a baby, and the memory made me smile.

    • Oh hon! I’m so sorry for your loss! I loved Hobkin through your posts and pictures here, I can imagine what a hole he’s left in your life. He was so lucky to be so loved though. Lots of e-hugs and supportive thoughts coming your way in your grief.

      Eugie and Matthew,

I am so sorry. We just heard about this last night. You can take some comfort in knowing that no skunk had ever been loved over more than Hobkin. He was pretty cool. Let us know if we can do anything.

Oh, Eugie, I am so so sorry. I know how sad it is to go through a loss like this…although I have no idea how hard this is hitting you and Matthew. You are in my thoughts and I’m sending you hugs right now. (And so are my three 4-legged children…)

I just found out about it. Losing a pet can be pretty rough. It’s almost like losing a child. The little furball will definitely be missed. 🙁

But look on the bright side. He’s now in Furball Heaven with a mischievous cat named after a Norse god, an over-motherly german shepard, and the meanest, fattest, and most protective chihuahua to have ever lived. Heh. They’re likely causing a rip-roaring ruckus up there right now. 😉

I’m always slow to catch up. I’m sorry for your loss.
