Holiday mutterings.

Comcast! Stabbity stabbity! Quite the familiar refrain these days. How sad is it that I’m getting used to being profoundly frustrated when I try to access anything on the Internet? Grumf.

Today, must do Christmas shopping. Now we’re really behind.

Writing Stuff

Received:
Editing proofs from the editor of Modern Magic for “Souls of Living Wood.” I’d forgotten how much I like that little story. That anthology is slated for release early next year, which is a lot sooner than I thought. Very much looking forward to it.

New Words: 1000 on “Vain and Vie.”

Oooooooh, I love that story!! It’s one of my favorites. :nods happily: That one and Storyteller’s Wife…I haven’t managed to get a copy of that one in French yet, though. It’s very sad.

I think the Modern Magic anthology is going to be a really nice project. It’s been delayed, but I expect the wait to be worth it.

Did the Faeries editor reply to your email?

It certainly ought to be! :-)

Yes, he did. And he sent an attachment, an order form that (I think) allows you to order single copies. And that’s where I’ve hit my snag. By some trick of fate, none of the words I know are on there, and none of the words on there are words I know. I’m thinking that I may enlist Mamma’s help; as an immigrant, she grew up speaking French for the first eight years of her life. (Although, I’ve noticed that she only has the vocabulary of an educated eight-year-old. I’m not sure if she can help or not.) But that’s beside the point, unless I can figure out how to get around Snag #2, because the magazine is priced in Euros, and I have no clue where to even start on that. I don’t exactly have a bunch of Euros lying around in my pocket.

        Any advice?

Oh, dear. They don’t make it easy for Americans to get their magazine, do they? Wait, I’ve got an idea! Why don’t you delete the order form and check your mailbox in 4-5 days. I have a feeling Noël de Père may be networking with the USPS around then.

My friend Marilyn recommends Speakeasy.net for dsl service. They can even install a “dry” line, which means you don’t have to have a land line, if you don’t want one. It’s around $60 a month and is very stable.

    Frustration

Sorry Comcast is giving you fits. Have you called them about it? Are they working on the lines in your neighborhood? They came through ours a while back replacing the lines seemingly block by block and we were methodically being killed internet wise. They always seemed to break the connection just long enough for the internet nodes and distribution points to time us out. After about two weeks they finished our section and it stopped, thank goodness!

I took a look at Club 100 for Writers. Very interesting. They do have a key point though. The foundation of any writing career is to have something to sell, and the best way to assure that is to “go to work” at the keyboard a set number of hours every day. But you know that.

I guess thats what I liked about Namowrimo. It got me reoriented towards writing some every day. Hope it sticks.

As for you! Once upon a time I could plan on getting hold of a copy of anything any of my friends had a story in, but I gave up trying to keep up with you! But keep doing it!
