7 Months: Autumn Skunk

With the onset of cooler temperatures, Hobkin has gotten even more snuggly. And his coat has gotten incredibly thick and lush. At seven months, he weighs around seven pounds and eats just about any vegetable or fruit we offer him. Except for leaves. He still won’t eat leaves: spinach, bok choy leaf bits, celery leaves, etc.
We had the best of intentions for starting Hobkin on a regular tooth brushing regimen when we first got him as a kitten. But our intentions went awry, and he’s not what we’d call receptive to the toothbrush. We asked around and heard about something called “Greenies.” They’re dog biscuit chews. People rave about how well they keep dog teeth clean, and now we’ve heard that they work well for cats, ferrets, and other beasties including skunks. We were a little concerned about him choking on the dog-sized chews, but the company that makes Greenies also sells them in crumble sizes, called “l’il bits” for animals under 10 lbs. Voila! He really likes them, we’ll see how they work.
He likes sitting at my feet when waiting for his dinner. Although he takes every opportunity he can to let me know that waiting is not his favorite thing.
He’s calmed down a lot in the last few months. He’s nipping much less; he hardly ever nips me, and when he does, it’s more him setting his teeth in my direction to show that he’s displeased with something. I’m pretty sure he’ll get even more mellow as he gets older.
