NOT the End of the World

Amused by all the Armageddon-esque weather hubbub here. We’re expecting less than one inch of snow accumulation in the metro area. And there’s talk about crowds at grocery stores stockpiling supplies. Less than one inch wouldn’t even qualify as a “storm” up north. Silly Southerners.

‘Course, having said that, if we have any accumulation, I probably won’t be able to make it into work. As I discovered a few years back, this state’s lack of snow-clearing equipment—plows and salt trucks and all—makes the roads essentially impassable with any of the white stuff on it.

LOL! I’ve lived most of my life in Baltimore, western Massachusetts and Maine. Baltimore was stupid in that regard. People would rush to the stores and buy up all the toilet paper, milk and bread at the smallest report of snow. Up north, they would have taken one to three inches with barely a mention. 🙂

I miss the north more than you can possibly know! *sigh*

Hee! I was born and grew up in Central Illinois, as did , so whenever they start freaking out about the OMG “winter storm” down here, we think it’s cute. We’re also accustomed to less than one inch not being newsworthy beyond the standard “highs/lows/sunset/sunrise” weather reporting, much less being the cause for stockpiling and panic.

But I so don’t miss the northern winters. I get a reminder of how much I hated them once a year at Christmas—not that I really need a reminder.

I just think it’s ridiculous. I have to remind myself that the people panicking have never lived in the north. 🙂

I think the Illinois winters are worse than the ones we had in the Berkshires and in Maine, but I was a lot younger then and I might not be remembering it quite like it actually was. 😉

“Cute” is exactly the word that popped into the head of this Idahoan. 🙂
