Bufo marinus resolution

Thanks to everyone who participated in my poll and chimed in on my title quandary from yesterday. It was close, but the majority opinion went with “Princess Bufo marinus” over “Princess Bufo Marinus.” Also, the editor stated his preference and it matched the majority vote.

I know a lot of you on my flist are writers, but I’ve also got my fair share of science-minded people on my flist. I wish now that I’d also created a supplementary poll to see how the numbers spread out between literary people, scientific people, and folks who were both or neither. The scientist in me is all bubbling with curiosity.

I sent my rewrite of “Princess Bufo marinus, I Call Her Amy” to my editor and he’s sent back his edits. Another pass or two and I should be done with it. Hurray!

New words: 700 on “Rue and Ruin” with some bloat pared off in an editing pass.

Yes, and some of us are both. That’s Dr. Klingonguy you know. 😛

Hee! If I did put together such a poll, I’d certainly include a “both” option. I consider myself both a scientist and a writer too. Although my active scientist days are rather distant, and I don’t have that coveted PhD, but I cling to my intellectual fantasies.

Most days, there’s no sign of it. Today though has not been one of those days. I just finished a two hour, four person, telephone conference involving deconstructing a psychiatric form for its eventual use on a shiny and spiffy new database package to be used by the Mental Health provider company that I am a consultant for (the official title is “Director of Research’). Oy. Painful two hours, but very productive. That’s enough doctor work for the day though.

  2. Cool doings on new story. Is it a guaranteed sale? Me? I’m wallowing in two new rejections, both received on Sunday. That’s what I get for not checking my mail over the weekend.

Don’t wallow! Shrug it off, champ. Shrug it off! Get those stories back out there ASAP!

Mostly, sort of. It was solicited by an editor to present to an interested publisher for a proposed anthology. The editor is both an experienced editor–as in he’s edited other published works, including an upcoming anthology I’ll be appearing in–and a well-respected writer (not to mention a very cool person). And the publisher is a big house. Sorry for all the cryptic, but the project is still on the hush-hush.

So it’s not a done deal, but it’s a solid likely-to-happen–more solid than several “sales” I’ve made where I’ve seen the publication fold before they published my work.

For whatever it’s worth, the reason I voted with “Bufo marinus” was simply because you were using the italics. If you’re going to do that (i.e. using the scientific naming), do it all the way. 🙂
