Frolicon

Frolicon. Whee! *flop*

In recovery mode now. Think it’s going to be a slow, easy couple of days.

My first panel was the Writers for Relief one with jackzodiac and tstauffer. Many copies sold and good-natured jibbing and accolades at Davey for his incredible job at putting the whole project together.

Then I found out (!) that I had a reading that evening in the con suite. As anyone who reads my blog on any sort of a regular basis knows, public speaking freaks the ever-living bejeebers out of me. The idea of doing a reading, cold, was enough to turn me into a whimpering, twitching mess.

I was debating between having fosteronfilm read something for me, and simply hiding out until my time slot was over, when Matthew came up with the inspired idea of playing the Escape Pod podcast of “My Friend is a Lesbian Zombie”–it was even an appropriately-themed story for the convention. Problem: we didn’t have a sound system or a CD of the podcast. Fortunately, bamapair had swung by for my panel and very generously offered the use of their laptop to download it; the hotel had free WiFi even. And Joe had brought his kicking boom box for the con suite. Serendipity.

“Lesbian Zombie” went over well, with giggles and snarfs in the proper places, so I then put on “The Life and Times of Penguin” to more giggles. So much better than if I’d tried to muddle through a reading. Thank you Escape Pod!

And speaking of the Con Suite, major props go out to Joe, God Emperor of Con Suites. This was by far the best Fantasm/Frolicon con suite evah for food, drink, and general ambiance:

After my “reading” we swung by homeward to feed Hobkin and get ready for the evening parties. When we got back, we hooked up with the gorgeously costumed glenn5:

As Zatanna on Friday

As Melody (a la Josie and the Pussycats) on Saturday

And caught the hypnosis show, where dude_the volunteered to be one of the victims subjects:

We all joined up with bamapair, pyanfar, and jackzodiac and then it was parties, parties, parties.

viylette as a lovely Arabian dancing girl. I noticed a prevalent theme at Frolicon: pirates and harem girls.

Saturday I had my two panels with jackzodiac and tstauffer, “Fairytales and Folklore in Modern Dark/Horror Fiction” and “Twisted Relationships in Fiction” a grueling back-to-back three hour session which we all made breeze by with a liberal application of booze.

We also caught the fashion show:

The Melanie half of bamapair as an amazing Tarna

And I mentioned pirates didn’t I? Lego pirate gaming!

fings playing pirate ships.

Much fun. I sleep now.

Look- that’s playing with those pirate ships!

Frolicon looks like so much fun. So many of my LJ friends were there, too… 🙁

Okay, is hot. I’ll go and hide now, because I rarely say anything like that in a journal, be it mine or that of another.

Glad you had a good time! How’s Hobkin’s tummy lately?

*sighs* Now i’m even MORE disappointed I missed this!! *lesigh*

    Oh well. there’s always 2007.

How come we don’t have more pics of you in costume?? 😀

The blonde in the blue harem girl costume is my friend , if you’re labeling these.

Thanks for posting the photos of me! Otherwise I wouldn’t have had the balls cojones nerve.

      All hail Eugie then!

It would have been a crime to miss those pics 🙂

You wouldn’t have? Why not? I’ve seen a photo of you now both as you look daily (icon, I think?) and a la Frolicon, and you shouldn’t be self-conscious at all. I’d give my eye teeth to look as good in those outfits as you do, as would a whole lot of other women!

Wait, do I even have eye teeth any longer? Hmm…must Google now…Doesn’t matter. The point is, you look fantastic!

I *just* listened to the Lesbian Zombie story on Escape Pod last night!

What a fun story! And the reading of it was spot on.

still in atl… but did you hear that the con is going 21 and up next year and I don’t know what that means for the think track and you, toni, and I… so if you hear anything please let me know… but I had such a blast at the con with you like always… until next time… I love the idea of using the readings to play audio stuff… I am going to steal that idea for myself…

Welcome back, Eugie! Glad you had a good time!

  8. Pod casts may be your saving technology, but I still think you should work up the nerve to do some readings. It is always such a thrill to hear the author read their own work, putting the emphasis where they think it should be. After all, you don’t even have to look at the audience that much if you’re reading. Go for it next time. You can do it. I believe in you. Believe in yourself!

Curses upon the Infernal Revenue Service! Curses!

Ahh, now that that’s out of my system…

Playing the podcasts was an ingenious idea. Wish I had been there.

I had a great time, ‘cepting the cherries at the MobiCON party did me in. I only drink like twice a year and that Guervo was more potent than I realized. I had two of the vodka soaked cherries and it was all over. Think I’ll stick to just a few beers the next time.

I really loved listening to your podcasts. I really enjoyed both stories, but the penguin story stole my heart.

My next con is HyperiCON where I’ll be hooking up with Jana Oliver and others. So, I probably won’t see you again until DragonCON, unless we somehow manage to hook up over the summer. 🙂

    EUGIE!!

hee, i had SUCH a great time hanging out with you at Frolic. in fact, i had at least TWICE as much as at Fantasm last year, since everything with Davey wasn’t all wonky this time, heh.

i really really liked both of the stories from the reading. i wish i hadn’t missed so much of the Lesbian Zombie one. i’ll have to download that and listen to it at my leisure. when my friend came in i tried to keep my voice down so i wouldn’t disturb anyone else, but i didn’t want to walk away either cause i wanted to hear the dang story! sillie me. anyway, they both rocked and i’m just glad that i got to hang out with you guys again :oD

Congrats on the sale and the nod on “Honor.” Go you!

I once killed time before a meeting by editing the handout we had all received. I left a copy on the front desk. When the presenter arrived, he was so embarassed he collected them all and wouldn’t give them back to us 🙂

Wow. Awesome on the Fix! Congrats!

Congrats on the Asimov’s mention. I just discover your blog through a LJ friend. The Fix seems to be a well-designed site. Also interesting to get
reviews on some short fiction instead of novel reviews all the time. I’ll be checking back. The fix covers many of the magazines I hope to one day be published in (Asimov’s Weird Tales, etc.). I hope I’ll get a good review when that day comes, ha!
