I noticed that LJ appears not to be emailing comments to me. How annoying. I know they went through a big server move recently, so I’m hoping it’s due to that and will resolve itself soon.
fosteronfilm put on our laser disc of Highlander to watch at around 2AM last night, and I woke up enough to peer groggily at the first half, and then fell back asleep. But the Queen song “Who Wants to Live Forever” has seeped into my subconscious and I can’t shake it free. A couple measures of the eponymous chorus keeps playing over and over in my head. Makes me want to go postal with a spork–stabbity stabbity. Agh!
Writing Stuff
Much editing and rewriting happened on “Princess Bufo marinus, I Call Her Amy.” The editor has a few more changes he wants, and then it’s done done done. I hope.

Words: Um, let’s just call it 500 on “Rue and Ruin.” There was much furious typing, and then much frenzied cutting. The net gain is only a couple hundred, but looking at it that way makes me want to grind my teeth, so I’m not gonna. (Hmm, I wonder if this urge to spork and gnash could be an Effexor side-effect? I hope not.)

I think the LJ email comments thing is definitely a sporadic bug. I’m getting some comments, but notably, not ones from folks who are also having comment-sending issues. Makes me think that there’s hope that the problem will be resolved soon. Or at least eventually . . .
I haven’t had any comments, so I don’t know about the mailing.
And I didn’t experience the spork/gnash desires on Effexor. My main side effect from effexor is that my sleep patterns were shot for a couple of weeks, but I didn’t taper on (started at 150).
I’m still on 37.5mg/day, which isn’t even an effective dose of Effexor. I’ve been feeling pretty good recently, so I haven’t been inclined to rush my dosage increase. I suspect my irritability yesterday might be an, err, lunar effect. Once I realized the probable cause, I could set much of my irrational grumpiness aside. Mostly . . .

And editing counts towards the writing process. Even if it means the total word count goes backwards, each word you have cut has been weighed and measured and found wanting. It makes the story stronger.
I’m feeling the “it’s too long, too long too long!” writers paralysis creeping over me on this one. Trying to ignore it and fob it off with “it’ll get tightened in editing, just finish it” mantra, but gawd it’s rough laying down words while I’m fighting the Second-guessing Myself monster. Blah.

Eugie, what is this “laser disc” of which you speak? A weapon of the Jedi that never made it into the movies?
We’re slowly converting our laser disc collection over to DVD, but we’ve still got a lot of titles exclusively on LD. I fear the day our laser disc players give out and we won’t be able to find parts or technicians who can work on them. Hopefully, by then, we’ll have everything converted, but considering how slowly we’ve been getting to it, I find that unlikely. Some titles we’ve got haven’t been and won’t be released on DVD (the original Star Wars where Han shot first, for example), which makes it all particularly worrisome.
I’m hanging on to my original Star Wars videocassettes for dear life. I like the old, now-quaint FX better too.
