Watched Lost in Translation yesterday with Matthew. I want those hours of my life back. While the insight into modern Japanese culture was interesting, the story–if you could call it that–and the characters, most definitely were not. Yuck. Pretentious pretentious pretentious. And boring.
Writing Stuff
So, after the first positive agent response, I got a form “not interested in you, you fool!” from a different one in the mail yesterday. C’est la vie. Then I got a call from Ann Crispin! She’s recommending me to an agent in her agency, Writers House LLC. She’s sending them an email on my behalf and everything. She’s the utter and total best. It would be so completely amazing if I could land a Writers House agent. Ooo.
Also spent the last few days making banners for Scrybe Press. Go HERE to see them.
And I finally got the check from Cricket for “Razi and the Sunbird.” Now if they’ll only slot in for publication the other seven stories of mine they’ve bought . . .

Congratulations on the agent search going so well! I’m dreading that part of the process – I don’t think I’m that good at promoting myself – but I don’t think I should indulge myself in worrying about that until I actually have something that I’m happy with to sell.
I think congrats may be a little premature at this point, but thanks anyhoo. So far, there aren’t any agents that have actually read my submission, just a couple that may actually do so. But I’m certainly hoping with bated breath (which leads to some wheezing and light-headedness).

I hope so. It’s a long ways from an offer of representation, but it’s better than a kick in the teeth. Glad the contract made it safely to you through the snow!
It’s forward progress, which is always good news.
The snow, at last, is melting. All that’s left in my area are the mounds from the plows and bits in the shade. Now if it will just stay gone…

I hated “Lost in Translation”, too. I felt nothing in it was vaguely interesting to someone who knows anything about Japanese culture. I rented it and later wished I had rented a real Japanese film instead.
Thanks! And yeah, we Netflixed it, and I really wish we’d used that rental slot on something else. The critics really liked Lost, so I had hopes that it would be insightful and well-written; instead it was tedious and boring. Ugh.
Good luck on the Writers House agent. They seem to be a really awesome agent group…they’re on my list of “agents to apply to once this contest thing is resolved.” But wait…I guess I don’t have to wait, do I? Eeek. More work.
Thanks! I don’t know how much Writers House does children’s lit, so I’m thinking there’s a good chance they’ll turn me down. But having Ann vouch for me means they’ll at least give me a serious lookover. Can’t ask for more than that!
