Ow ow ow ow

Wingstubs have become a great, aching throb from my shoulders to my fingertips. Also experiencing some really distressing breathing issues. I think I’m stressed, although I can’t for the life of me figure out why I should be more stressed now than at any other time. Things are on a fairly even keel . . . I think.

Took .25 mg of Clonazepam last night. I noticed that my breathing eased up quickly after taking it, another good indicator that my physical ailments have a root cause in stress. I slept well and woke up without the usual post-drug fog hazing my brain, so I’ve determined once and for all this new dosage works much better for me. But my arms still ache.

Going to try to do some meditating to relax. I’m out of practice–both in meditation and, apparently, relaxation.

Writing Stuff:

– I did end up querying the Borderlands 6 people. Now, more waiting.
– Started jotting down some notes for the talk Ann Crispin asked me to give. Oh, wait, stressor! Ah hah.
– Wrote my review of this week’s Sci-Fiction story, “The Key” by Ilsa J. Bick, for Tangent and sent it off to my editor.
– Worked on the rewrite of “Caught Between” and in the process renamed it “Masques of Love.” It’s a bit of a saccharine title, and I’m not 100% pleased with it, but my clever, un-saccharine title was resoundingly panned. The final crits should come trickling in today or tomorrow. I’m thinking I’m in good shape to have it out the door by Thursday or Friday at the latest.

  1. Clonazepam (I’ve seen this word a lot) must be for your pain, right? So this is stronger than Tylenol and it’s only doctor’s prescription. May I ask you, is this chronic pain hereditary or you develop it? *curious*

Clonazepam is the generic form of Klonopin, a muscle relaxant/sedative. It’s a benzodiazepine so it’s not technically an analgesic, although it knocks me right out, and sleep eases all pain, so in a roundabout way, it has analgesic properties.

The doctor who prescribed it was a Neurologist who suggested it to help control my Thoracic Outlet Syndrome (TOS) pains, which are triggered by stress and over-use of my hands (repetitive motion). The root cause of my TOS seems to an extra set of ribs in my neck that presses on my thoracic nerves. The rib is developmental (so my friend with the Ph.D. in Biology informs me) but I like to think of it as my own personal mutation . . .

      • Interesting. Thanks for telling me.

Hubby sometimes give me a muscle relaxant when I’m over stress and couldn’t sleep. I just never know the name. Perhaps it’s something similar to yours.

Getting good stage 4 sleep is essential. When I don’t get enough, I ache like hell the next day. Today, I’m aching all over. I’ve had so many good days that I forgot what it was like, ya know? So I grumped around all morning and finally took half a pain pill and that did the trick. I hate depending on them just to get my normal day done but damn. So hugs to you. I know how you feel in a way. Hope you feel better. 🙂

      Re: Wingstubs

Hell, yeah. But it’s not anything immediate right now. I’m deep in denial mode–don’t think about it, it’s not for a looong time. At least that’s the theory. Urg.
