Hobkin appears to have some sort of tummy upset. He ate a tiny bit of broccoli at breakfast, but turned up his nose at more broccoli, a tomato slice, a chunk of sweet potato, and celery. And he didn’t eat any veggies at lunch, although he did tuck away most of his cottage cheese. So far he hasn’t sicked anything up, but he’s not doing so well at the back end.
Matthew tried to feed him some Pepto Bismol, but he would have nothing to do with it, and spent the day napping (or sulking) under his hutch.
Went shopping after work to pick up some cucumber, bell pepper, and bread. Wanted to make sure we have plenty of veggies high in liquid to offer him, and something mild to tempt his appetite with. I’m worried about him becoming dehydrated. If he doesn’t start eating better by tomorrow, he gets to go see the nice vet people. Poor little guy.
Writing stuff:
Another 1000 words on the fantasy/VR fusion thingy, and I’m at zero draft. I think due to my non-chronological writing, there’s some rough transitions in the middle. Want to go over those before handing it to Matthew to first reader. Managed to meld Greek, Chinese, and Celtic mythos into a single story. I hope that’s a good thing.
Heard from the editor of the ELP Library. My excerpt “Visiting Day” is due up on June 20th. Also saw that Infinite Matrix had published a new story, “Safe Harbor” by Karen D. Fishler, so I reviewed it for Tangent. Going to have to ask my editor when in April I take over the SciFiction.com reviews as they publish weekly.
Hope Hobkin regains his health soon, and becomes as healthy as the one outside my window last night 🙂

I think Hobkin is getting a little better. Mostly I suspect he’s feeling sorry for himself. I hand fed him some cucumber, bell pepper, and bok choy, and he’s holding it down somewhat well. But he doesn’t seem inclined to eat on his own. He’s such a mommy’s boy.
Hope the little guy starts feeling better soon. I’m no stranger to tummy upsets, so he has my sympathies.
Will your having something in ELP count as us being TOC-mates? I’ve had two pieces up so far — one up right now — and another two in the queue. My best market as far as sales-percentages go (batting 1.000) and my second best as far as total sales go.
Thanks. I feel terrible when he’s sick. Especially since he can’t tell me how he feels and I can only try to guess from his symptoms.

Is it possible that Hobkin, like his Uncle Glenn, simply doesn’t care for broccoli?
Could be, but right now he’s not caring for much of anything. Although he’ll eat if I cut it into little pieces and hand feed him. Wah! My skunk is sick!
If he has diarhea, dehydration is a concern. Give hime some Pedialyte. Mine love this and suck it up like liquid candy. As far as the Pepto, you can try mixing a little into some yogurt or scrambled egg, something he usually finds irristable. A “white diet” is good when they have this kind of stomach upset as well. Try giving rice, bananas, potatoes, applesauce, and/or a little toasted bread. How lobg has it been since he has been wormed? Sometimes the worms can make them sick and give them diarhea. I hope he gets to feeling better. Poor thing. Trinity has a very sensitive digestive tract, so we frequently have to resort to these measures. Give him a cheek rub from me!
Poor Trinity! Yah, I’m always worried first about dehydration as soon as any tummy problems crop up. That’s the reason I bought the watermelon. I know Hobkin loves it, and it’s mostly water. I’ve had bad luck with pedialyte and ferrets (they don’t seem to like it), but if Hobkin ever becomes dehydrated, I’ll be sure to try it.
He’s doing much better today. Actually attacked my sock when I came home. I have since removed my sock.
He hasn’t been wormed in a while, though. He tends to respond poorly to the wormer. It upsets his tummy. Figures, huh? Plus since we don’t feed him raw meat (or cooked for that matter), and he doesn’t go outside, the chances of him getting worms are pretty small. We tend to only administer the meds to him when he’s been in a situation which would increase his chance of encountering worm eggs.
Poor baby, I hope he’s ok! Does he like riding in cars? I bet he automatically tenses up when he enters the vet’s office, too. Any animal that I’ve ever had, has done that.
He most definitely does not like riding in cars. Or seeing the vet for that matter. He tends to go all clingy at the vets, although he keeps trying to find a way out of the car, which makes traveling with him a bit nerve-wracking.
If pepto is needed, and he won’t let you give him the liquid, you might try dabbing a pepto chewable in peanut butter and see if he will eat it that way…

I’m sure Hobkin would go wild for peanut butter. Heh. Thankfully, bread-soaked Pepto seems to get the paws-up of approval.
