The Dragon*Con staff meeting was yesterday. Bruce Boxleitner canceled from D*C because he got a job that conflicts with the timing. Understandable but unfortunate.
We almost filled our Daily Dragon staff dearth, but the guy who we snagged got dragged to a different department by his friends. It’s his first convention–not just his first Dragon*Con–and he’s worried about getting lost and overwhelmed, which is understandable, and wants to stick close to his friends this year. But still, pook. It does sound likely that we’ll get him next year. He’s published a book and wants to do something involving writing for the con. Unfortunately, that means we’re still down a staff member. Dangit.
Joe (director of the Con Suite) was handing out these jumbo tubes of pixie stix powder. Mmm. Sugar high. He’s always giving away such wonderful things: sugar, caffeine, food. And he ordered extra cases of Amp this year. Hurray for Joe! Amp is what kept me going for large portions of D*C last year.
Got a sneak-peek of the backstage pass artwork (drawn by dire_epiphany). Very cool! Can’t wait to see the passes when they’re done.
Came home and watched Who Framed Roger Rabbit and promptly fell asleep about halfway through it. My sleep cycles are totally messed up.
Hobkin’s in my lap, totally being a comatose fuzzalump and I’m almost out of coffee in my glass. Trying to figure out how to pour a refill without disturbing the fuzzhead. Heh.
Erm… Just what is ‘Amp’? Never heard of it…
AMP is an energy drink, like Red Bull if you’re familiar with that one, produced by the makers of Mountain Dew. It’s basically Dew on steroids. It’s got vitamins, ginseng, carbs, and plenty of caffeine. A very nice kick-me-up when you’re running on three hours of sleep and a deadline.
Oh, another soporific *g*
I have a ‘perverse reaction’ to caffeine, which means it makes me tired and sleepy. A small can of Red Bull, and I’m not fit to drive a car, because I feel like I should better find a bed and crash…
Sill, I *love* Mountain Dew, and I can only wish they had it here in Europe.
What exactly does this position entail? Can any living body fill it or certain credentials necessary?
Love & Hugs,
Basically, our staff duties are these:
– Attend panels/events and do write-ups for them (between 250-500 words) for inclusion in the hard-copy and web version of the Daily Dragon. Also the occasional guest interview if you are so inclined.
– Staff the desk.
– Make schedule changes as submitted by the various heads of the programming tracks for inclusion in the hard copy and web site.
– Misc. clerical/runner/go fer duties that crop up.
Familiarity with MS Word and HTML/various HTML editors is a plus, but not essential.
It’s actually a really sweet volunteer deal–at least I think so. You get worker credit for attending panels you were going to anyway, as well as a press ribbon and a backstage pass to all the big events (like the Dawn Look-Alike contest, and the Masquerade). We also share headquarters with Guest Services so we get to see all the celebrities as they check in and/or as they wander about looking for help or fun.
Are you interested? If you are, drop me an email and we can discuss further. We’d love to have you on-board.
Sounds like something I might be interested in doing. I’ll be dropping you an e-mail.
Love & Hugs,
no Bruce Boxleitner???
my mom is gonna kill me…
Hm. Out of curiosity, if I were interested in DJing at DragonCon (this or some later year), who would I talk to about that?
