Hah. As soon as I start complaining about a lack of swag, the boxes start rolling in. Six boxes on our doorstep, some of which contain nifty freebies like t-shirts and movie tickets, and some which contain *ahem* not-so-nifty freebies. And the dining room has once again acquired a cluttered appearance. Trade-offs.
I don’t think the FedEx guy likes us. He doesn’t even ring the doorbell to announce his deliveries anymore. He just plops them on our doorstep and runs off.
In other news, I’m debating whether we need to give Hobkin a bath. What’s triggering this conundrum is that I, err, dropped a dollop of whipped cream on him. I cleaned off most of it, but there’s a patch of fur on his tail which is sticking up funny now.
Writing Stuff
Been working on my talk for Ann Crispin. Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. I have, ye verily, incorporated them into my lecture. I also ran through it several times last night (poor fosteronfilm had to listen to me), and after just a few trial runs, my throat went dry and my voice started going. Sheesh. Apparently it’s a good thing I’m starting to practice early. I need to limber up my underused vocal chords. Also updated my handout of useful URLs. Most depressing, several of the pro markets that were on my list last year have either folded or gone on indefinite hiatus. Just doing a quick glance over the market listing I keep handy, a ridiculously large number of my favored markets are closed–both pro and semi-pro. The current state of viable short fiction venues is not good, although there are new ones sprouting–like Son & Foe, Farthing, and Aeon. Still, sigh.
Just FYI, according to Ralan’s, Aeon is closed until November, and Farthing is closed “until further notice.”
Oh, I say BATHE HIM! It is most always fun to drag a skunk into the bath. *dodging the death rays emitting from eugie’s eyes* LOL

If Hobkin is like Ladybug, I’d opt for the not-bath. My dog hates baths with a passion; we only give them to her when it becomes absolutely necessary. Of course, some might consider Tail a la creme as making a bath absolutely necessary…it wouldn’t be a problem with Lady, though, as she wouldn’t stop chasing/licking her tail until every last bit of delicious cream was off. 😀 But Hobkin might have trouble reaching his tail…or he might not like cream…
Edit: That stinks about all those markets closing to submissions…I want there to be more markets accepting submissions, not fewer!
Pet bathing

If bathing a skunk is anything like bathing a cat, you have my sympathy. My first cat was a Siamese (she adopted me) and as she got older she couldn’t keep herself as clean as she used to. The first time we bathed her, we learned to always put the laundry curtain up because she climbed up it and it took us hours to get her down.
My second cat was white and loved to climb under cars, so he got bathed lots. the first time, we put the curtain up, but window was slighty up and the little bastard got into the gap between the window and the flyscreen. When we finally got him down he had to have another bath because he’d picked up lots of dirt from the flyscreen. So we learned from him to make sure the window is always complete up or completely down. And we had to wear welding gloves to wash him, too. He did NOT like baths.
But if Hobkin is looking greasy, give him a bath. He’ll hate it while you’re doing it, but he’ll feel better, and he’ll forgive you. Both Suki and Blitzkrieg always forgave me.
