Awww so darn cute! Almost makes me wish i had gotten one when i had the chance. But was rescuing ferrets than and did not have the space or time.

      Thank you!

And you did ferret rescue? I didn’t know that. That’s ever so cool. I’m always in awe of folks involved with animal shelters and rescue.

Do you still do ferret rescue?

So cute! I’ve always been a big fan of skunks, but I’ve got two cats and they’d probably be way too happy if I brought a rodent home.

    • Eugie Foster says:

Probably best not to disturb an established critter hierarchy! But, err, skunks aren’t rodents y’know. They’re in the Mustelidae family which is commonly known as the weasel family. Although skunks have been recently re-classified into their own family because they’re omnivores and everyone else in the Mustelidae family (ferrets, wolverines, minks, etc.) are obligate carnivores. But they’re definitely not rodents. In the wild, skunks eat rodents.

      • jenwrites says:

        I sit corrected!

Not that I have anything against rodents, mind you. My brother has two pet rats who are just adorable. They’re especially adorable when he puts them in a pouch that he hangs from his neck. There’s just something about a 6’5″ guy wearing a pouch with two little rat heads poking out of it.

        • Eugie Foster says:

Your brother and his rats sound absolutely adorable. I think rats (and all rodents) are little sweeties with their shiny eyes and wiggling noses. Whenever I see them in movies or TV shows and they’re supposed to look fierce or ominous or something, it totally fails to inspire fear in me. I can’t help but go “awww!”

He is such a super-sweetie!!! I love skunk pics!

    • Eugie Foster says:

Thank you! He’s getting to be quite a camera ham. Although I think the world could have fallen down around his little ears and he wouldn’t have noticed while he had his cake!

  4. galateadia says:

Awwwwwwwww! so sweet! he really likes carrot cake huh?

  5. what a lucky fella. I sometimes wish I am a pet.

  6. terracinque says:

    What a little charmer!

Is he fixed? Must pet skunks get fixed, or can you keep them fertile and breed them if you want?

    • Eugie Foster says:

Thank you! And yes, he’s definitely fixed. We had him neutered when he was three months old. Intact male skunks can get aggressive and territorial, females will have severe health problems (including and up to death) if allowed to go into heat and aren’t bred. So pet skunks really need to be fixed.

Oh wow! Hobkin is all grown up now. He is looking beautiful and it really shows what great care he has had! Congratulations! (I am Neo’s mommy, by the way) Neo sends cheek rubs!

    • Eugie Foster says:

Hi there! I didn’t know you had an LJ! I’ve added you to my friend’s list, hope you don’t mind. I love hearing about other people who have skunkies in their lives. Give Neo a big hug for me!

      • alijt says:

I do not mind at all. I think I will add you to mine as well, because Ilove hearing about the skunkies as much as you do! 😉
