Not my big holiday update entry

I was going to post a big holiday catch-up entry, but this isn’t it. I was just scrolling through my friend’s list in a vain effort not to fall too far behind, and I realized something. I have seen more racist comments on LiveJournal than I have seen, heard, or experienced since grade school.

I just saw someone say in a comment “fucking chink,” about a Chinese person and actually mean it. I haven’t heard the term “chink” since sixth grade when I had to deal with some exceptionally unpleasant racism in school. And thinking back, I realized that the amount of overt racism I’ve seen people express has jacked up since I started keeping a blog here.

It makes me sad.

*Sigh* Peace on Earth, goodwill towards everyone. Please.

I’m sorry, honey 🙁 That really sucks. Nobody should be subjected to that shit.

Myself, growing up in a REALLY backwards area of the south, witnessed racism a lot. I think that’s one of the reasons my Native American family says they’re White. Online, I’ve been called names, too. Just realize that these people are ignorant, allthough I know it has to be hard not to let it get to you…

I was raised in a rural southern area where discrimination was pretty rampant. All though my parents didn’t condone it, they really didn’t do much to change the situation either. Going to college, travelling, and meeting people from all over the world quickly changed my perceptions. I still find that many of my extended family members have poor perceptions and make rude comments – so at family gatherings, I often find myself trying to defend people in order to alter their perceptions. At times it gets so bad that I just get up and leave the room, because we don’t see eye to eye and they refuse to consider another view point. I am ashamed to their actions, attitudes, and ignornace. I wonder what the key is to ending this type of stupidity.

    Yuck. Yuck yuck yuck.

People like that make me very angry. I wish you didn’t have to deal with that sort of thing. Hell, I wish nobody had to deal with that sort of thing.
