Entry whatever. Who’s counting?

Okay, so it’s been–what?–a week since I updated this. In that time, I’ve just about fully recovered from the whatever that hit my system and knocked me out for the count. I hate being sick. And I hate that weak, wobbly feeling I get after doing nothing but lie on the bed or the couch for days on end. But, that’s over and done with. Hurray!

To celebrate, Matthew and I had a caloriefest/moviefest last night. Sushi for dinner, brownies and ice cream camped out in front of the big screen for dessert, and coffee with ice cream in it for after hours. Mmmm. I can’t believe we ate nearly a whole half gallon of ice cream between the two of us.

We watched “Sabrina”–the 1995 one with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford–and “American Beauty.” 1999 was a truly amazing year for movies. What the hell happened? 2000 was so lame. Anyway, “American Beauty” is just an amazing movie. We saw it when it came out amidst the slew of other 1999 films and it holds up well to repeated viewing. I wish I could write like Alan Ball, drool.

  1. It’s been a while since I saw American Beauty. That was a great movie. I was convinced that Wes Bently was a good actor.
Glad you feel a lot better. Gonna see any movies this year?

“American Beauty” is an amazing movie. We watched the audio commentary on the DVD yesterday. I remain impressed by both the writer and the director, and WAY impressed by the cinematographer.

Did you happen to see “Fight Club” also of 1999? It’s a jaw-droppingly impressive movie as well (as the trend appears to have been for that year) with really similar themes to “American Beauty” despite having very little else in common with it.

Thanks, btw, I’m glad I feel better too!

Matthew’s interested in “Changing Lanes.” Me, I’m ambivalent. We went to see both “Blade II” and “Queen of the Damned” and left shaking our heads at the profoundly bad writing. Eye candy pretty is just not enough. I wish Hollywood would get that.

      How ’bout you?

      • I too saw Fight Club on TV. Great movie.
This year, I am probably gonna watch a bunch of eye candy movies. You do have a point of Hollywood doing a bit more than just FX movies. Although I liked Blade 2, I can understand what you mean about bad writing. I tend to watch a lot of movies that not many people have heard of. One of the last movies that I rented on DVD was a foriegn film called “8 1/2.” It was made back in the 60s and it was a very surreal film. It had some good writing in it, you could tell by the subtitles. Very good film. Check it out if you see it.

One movie that I am interested in seeing this year is “The Rules of Attraction.”” I read the book a few weeks ago. It looks like a good movie.
Anyway, I gotta go. I’ll talk to ya later. Have a good day.
