Second unscheduled at-home day

Called in sick today and yesterday. My TOS is really flaring up, so I’ll make this entry short.

I feel totally health-screwed. The warning on my new meds for my Lupus/MCTD say “don’t take any meds in conjunction with this one, prescription or over-the-counter, without consulting your doctor!” in big all caps, and they include Aleve and Advil as things to check about because of the risk of gastro-intestinal damage from the methotrexate. So I’m scared to take Ibuprofen or Naproxen for the pain, and Acetaminophen doesn’t do jack.

Ow.

I’m falling behind in my correspondences and my writing because I’m trying to avoid the keyboard so the pain will go away. But I’m 5.5K words into a new story that I’ve got the ending, climax, everything all mapped out in my head. It’s killing me not being able to write it. Wah!

If I could just take a big ole painkiller, the pain would recede enough for me to type. But I’m scared to because of my new meds.

Ooo, this is intolerable! I’m calling my rheumatologist as soon as his office opens!

    Pain bad, drugs good.

Do they have an answering service or machine? If so, call before they open and leave a message, then call back after they open.

Get a record that you’ve been waiting a while, I guess. I dunno, ignore me, I’m the guy who rarely gets sick or needs to see a doctor for anything.

They’ve got a machine, but I’ve got their direct number so I don’t have to be routed through the switchboard. They’re usually very good at getting back to me. And they were this time too, so hurray!

I’m so sorry you’re feeling so bad! 🙁 I hope your doc responds quickly with something you can take for your pain, if he hasn’t already. I can’t imagine how awful you must feel. Any idea what caused the TOS to flare up this time? Is it just your keyboard-driven lifestyle? Please get well soon!

Thanks! I’m actually feeling better today.

Just all the typing I do. Annoying is what it is! Argh.

  3. Can you dictate into a tape recorder, or does that totally not work for you writing-wise?

Unfortunately, the only way I can seem to write is by typing. I can’t write long hand, I can’t dictate, I’ve had crappy luck with voice recog software. I seem to need to have the words flow from my fingertips to the screen. Anything else totally stymies my muse.
