P-doc follow-up (give the dog a bone, this old man came rolling home)

Had a follow-up appointment with my p-doc today. And . . .*drum roll please*. . . he agreed to let me stop taking the Effexor. I am now officially off any anti-depressants, which makes me happy! (Yes, the irony of that sentence is pretty gooey, isn’t it?) I explained to him that I hadn’t upped the dose past the 37.5mg starting amount since I was having such a good month in November, and that I’m sure the improvement is all due to the Adderall–since my weekend “holidays” are pretty sluggish. He suggested I up the Effexor and wean off the Adderall, but when I brought up that it seems likely that Effexor would be harder to get off of than a measly little amphetamine dependency, plus the shiny speed makes me happy, regulates my sleep, and gives me energy, whereas there’s no reason to believe the Effexor would do any of that. He agreed. So I’m staying with the Adderall . . . at least until my HMO adds Provigil to their list of spiffy drugs.

65-day personal no from the From the Trenches anthology after making it to the short list.
157-day no-with-obligatory-comments from Leading Edge.

Ow, ouch. Not a good day, rejection-wise. Ooo, my ego is smarting. I need a band-aid.

  1. I’m glad to hear that you’re OFF of anti-depressants. When I heard that you were on it, I thought, “OH NO!!!!” Seems like most of my LJ friends who are ON it gets MORE depressed and tends to have a suicidal syndrome. I don’t really believe in any anti-depressants except the people who have chemical imbalance in their body, who does not have control over their hormones or something. Anyhoo, take care of yourself…

    For bandaid:

Wanna go see Narnia tomorrow night?? Is available and amenable?

Sorry to hear about the rejections, but I was wondering… Have you received, um, anything else? Maybe something in a small package?

Yes! The giftmas fairy visited our house. Thank you thank you so much for getting me Tithe! I’m absolutely delighted at both the unexpected prezzie (I love surprises, whee!) and finally having this book which I’ve been wanting forever (although won’t let me read it until after Christmas, the meanie).

      You’re the absolute bestest.

Awww! I’m sorry te hear about the rejections–don’t editors know good writing when they see it?! (Arachne is awesome, by the way! Expect my crit to come rolling in…whenever the critter-bots determine that my crit shall come rolling in. ;-)

But I’m glad you’re off the Effexor.

I don’t know anything about amphetamines, but I have no idea how I’d get off of Effexor. I’d probably have to start taking something else first. :(

  6. t_rex says:

Hooray! It’s day #6 off the stuff for me. I hope it goes as well for you.

Effexor’s a nasty thing to go off of as it is. I swear speed has fewer physical effects. The little pzzt-blips and mini-blackouts are so not cool, not to mention the mood swings and shakes.

  8. The good, the bad and the lovely? If you had gotten 3 out of 3 right, you’d be a spaghetti Western. Go see Narnia and Kong, massive movie bandages for the rejection weary. I loved them both although they are, of course, very different.

  9. elvesforeyes says:

Sorry to hear about all the “no”s!

I’m still waiting to hear back from Leading Gate and now that I see it took them 157 days, I’ll have to calm my nerves as my mss has only been out there for 89. Ah…
