Writing Stuff:
Wrote a critters critique for one of my favorite regulars (our mutual friend, britzkrieg).
jinzi has already paid me for “Only Springtime When She’s Gone.” Uber coolness.
Got my first glimpse of the cover art for “Inspirations End/Still My Beating Heart” from Kirk Alberts. It’s glorious! Full color art with main colors a rich, blood-red crimson, and a shadowy black. I’m delighted with what he’s come up with. Can’t wait to hold the finished product in my eager little hands.
Received a pile of review books for Tangent in the mail. I think I’m going to need to clear some space to store all my review material. The current “pile it on any open counter space” isn’t working out well. I’m running out of counter space.
Received:
21-day “does not suit our present needs” signed reject from Analog.
78-day “It’s not at all bad but . . .” with invite to send more from Ellen Datlow at Sci-Fiction. I’m quite pleased with this one as far as rejections go. She also thanked me for taking over Tangent.
It’s funny how it never occurred to me that people would be slow to pay writers. I would want to be paid in a timely fashion, so that’s how I intend to pay for materials I have accepted.
Now I just have to get that contract to you. 😉 Today was a bit hectic and involved locating another troll nexus. This one was at the pet groomer’s. I thought they only showed up at Wal-Mart. Apparently, the damn things are breeding like bunnies.
I don’t know you, but I love you for that sentiment. Can I write for you someday? (That’s only half pathetic begging 8-)!)
The NEWSPAPER I wrote for hasn’t paid me since I started working for them, and I now have an attorney friend of mine “talking” to them because they won’t even return an email now.
After I wrote this comment, I realized that I SHOULD have known some people were slow to pay. I mean, I read‘s “Mad Bruce” stories and all.
I guess that even though I’m a spaz who loses bills in her disorganization and forgets to pay one sometimes for that reason, I don’t NOT pay intentionally.
As for writing for me, no half-pathetic begging is needed. I’ll add you to my friends list and let you know as soon as I am looking for more stories, which will probably be very soon!
It never ceases to amaze me that there really is a mindset out there that seeems to say writers should write for free and be grateful for it.
No other industry seems to have that attitude.
Ellen is such a wonderful person 🙂
I am in total awe of her. Now if only I could get her to buy something from me . . .
Keep trying. She does remember names. And when you can, attend a conference or event that she does too.
Received a pile of review books for Tangent in the mail.
I received the copy of American Sorrows in yesterday’s mail and have started reading.
with invite to send more from Ellen Datlow at Sci-Fiction.
I’d feel good about a personal reject from Ellen Datlow, too. 🙂
“I received the copy of American Sorrows in yesterday’s mail and have started reading.“
Coolness! I look forward to reading your review.
Dear Lord, I did the freakin’ happy dance when I got my personal rejection from Ellen last month. I know that feeling.
Also, how are you set up for reviewers? If you need more, let me know. Always up for review work.
I’m always in the market for good reviewers for Tangent. Drop me an email and I’ll get you set up!
On it’s way.
